The further I get into it, the more awkward those facial animations, or lack thereof, become. I'm tuning it out as best I can but, dang, they somehow needed more time to finish this game it seems. The funniest ones are a grimace or a big smile look exactly the same, and neither one looks right. They have the hookups in there too since I have seen a few smiles on one side of the face which look good. Brow animation is almost entirely absent as well, which is super critical for reading emotion. Anyway, I still am enjoying this game quite a bit, but I miss the controlled cameras in conversations they used to have as opposed to over the shoulder for a lot of them now; like in DA:I. Maybe my first run should be with a Ryder I don't get too attached to. For those in the know, I could make a new version of Costanza Shepard.

I believe it can be fixed by a big patch but did DA:I had something like this ? I was going to assume because of Frosbite, interesting issue... edit : I saw people trashing the game because of those facial animations,is it really that bad ? Internet always makes me sad man,I don't want it to be true

I'm not concerned about the animations. It'll be disappointing if they're really bad, but hardly worth all the hate I'm seeing online. Animations are gravy on the chips of the Mass Effect greatness.

I feel they've never really been a star at it, I'm interested to see if they'll patch some of it out.

Though I've come across some funny animations (Cora's chimp walk, or running up and down certain hills) I have found that most of them aren't that much of an issue. I've adapted to them already, though I do hope that they improve them it won't be a game breaker for me. I've even considered a few war assets for my mod based on some milky way organisations that are mentioned ingame. Anyway, here are my comments on it from the trial: 1) I like the music, sure it's not as synth as the old ones but it still is nice in places. I'll get used to it and enjoy it quickly. 2) The galaxy map is utterly gorgeous, I love it. I especially love it when you orbit a planet and then leave the galaxy map. Truly stunning views. 3) Though I am not the greatest fan of the over-the-shoulder camera conversations, they are a vast step up from the ambient click-to-talk we had in ME3. I'd love it if that was implemented for ME3 for those crappy ambient convo's. 4) Nothing wrong with the characters so far, they aren't very exciting but they aren't annoying. I think they could grow on me. 5) I like what I've seen of the Nexus so far. 6) The Nomad isn't too bad a vehicle, of the three they've had I think its the best one. I just feel its a massive shame that it has no gun. Just feels absurd not to. 7) I've not read the codex, so I'm not certain how much lore might have been broken in there. 8) I think the actual combat is atrociously bad, ME1 levels of bad. I really hate it. I had thought the story would be the deal breaker for me, but it turns out the combat is really putting me off. It feels to me like they abandoned the improvements made from ME2 & 3. 9) The lack of a power wheel sucks. 10) I'm enjoying the story elements, I'm interested in where it is going though I'm hoping it won't go the route I'm predicting. 11) I do love the exploration elements added in, but I'm unsure on the jetpacks for combat purposes. All-in-all, I bought the trial to see whether I should cancel my pre-order or not, the money hadn't been taken from my account yet. If the combat was better, I'd be pretty upbeat about the game but the combat has put a downer on it for me. Still, I play these games for the story primarily, so I'll keep my pre-order and see how that goes. Prepare for the inevitable story complaining thread once I've finished it though . I always have something to complain about.

.... I have way too much free time. lol Nice. And pretty much it's the episode of Seinfeld where I do exactly what I wouldn't do in real life. I'm not concerned about the animations. It'll be disappointing if they're really bad, but hardly worth all the hate I'm seeing online. Animations are gravy on the chips of the Mass Effect greatness. I believe it can be fixed by a big patch but did DA:I had something like this ? I feel they've never really been a star at it, I'm interested to see if they'll patch some of it out. I don't think it has to be a deal breaker. The animations can be a little jarring but I think the lack of iris size is what's really hurting some characters as well. I don't mind a jerky animation while running or a lack of brow and gesture movement, but the actual model design might be what makes those problems stand out even more. I did go back and look at some video captures of scenes from ME3 for CEM and yeah, I like that presentation a lot better. It's what disconnected me a bit from the characters in DA:I. But back to the not being a deal breaker bit. I'm sure I will assimilate to it. The codex has been a fun read. I said I'd avoid spoilers but there are some concepts which aren't working as well for me given some subtle lines by characters in the game and how Bioware typically does stuff. I have yet to see something alien, really alien. The Thorian was flipping awesome in ME1. There's still a ton of time to see that though so I'm really hopeful that they deliver. The negative stuff online is ridiculous though. I almost made a video yesterday showing "how we remember the trilogy" and showing the pre-rendered videos for ME2 if you wait on the menu screen for too long. Then I was going to show all the glitches I've found over the years with a....well, maybe I'll still make it some day so I won't spill all the beans. Anyway, the game is not that bad. Even the number of views of "my face is tired" isn't that much (about 40K as I write this.) This is a case of the vocal minority taking over. Could the animations be better on the faces? Yes. Will it ruin the game for most people? No. Even I, who now am very critical of facial animation after going through over 100 lines in CEM, still am enjoying this game quite a bit. I'm just changing my expectations a bit from the wonder of ME1 to a fun game that looks great and might even make me care about the characters. If it doesn't make me care, it's not all lost as it's really fun to play for me.

Vocal minority is often the issue brought out by the internet. The trilogy has plenty of glitches and bad textures, animations, models, etc. It's still excellent. Don't get me wrong though, poor animation and stuff potentially in MEA (I'm going on small gifs and word of mouth) makes me sad. It's something that should have been near the fore of their thinking. Not a deal breaker though. Hopefully Witcher 3 style facial animations get patched in I'm preloaded and ready to go I'm glad everyone is liking it for the most part so far.

I wouldn't worry about the animations Kfreon, after a couple of hours you don't really notice it much, except for those few times a funny one appears, like when Cora walks off like a chimp. The story has been interesting so far, and the characters have potential, so I think it'll be a decent game.

It feels to me like they abandoned the improvements made from ME2 & 3. Not sure exactly what issues you're having, but I'm having a ball with the combat system - the new maneuverability and verticality to environments is a welcomed addition and both the biotic and tech powers feel really good. Plus this is now possible, lol:

Oh I know I'll like it. Especially with those amusing powers as avpen shows. That looks great Biotics for life.

Biotics will be really fun I'm sure. 500MB patch this evening...and it might be textures? .toc...i have no idea what those are. Also, male Ryder, could be the model, larger lips that my female Ryder, but his animations look better to me. I'm pretty happy about all of this right now. It's just so fun. EDIT: Wow. I'm actually excited about this male Ryder run I got going now. I mean...I'm waiting to play tomorrow (under 2 hours on my trial) so I can just keep rolling on launch. It's what Mass Effect would have been if the tech existed 10 years ago. I'm eager to hear any official word on the 500MB patch because that's reasonable enough size that I'm hoping they did something. I saw some facefx folder of only about 20MB...so, I'm not sure if the game references those animations or not? Anyway, I'm pumped. I was sick last week and can't take time off of work to play it and that is very disappointing to me.
