Rule Enforcement
Forum policies and rules will be enforced using a tiered, 3-strike system that uses Proboard's baked-in "warning bar". Every forum member has a warning bar, it just isn't displayed unless it's partially-filled. The policy is simple: a total of 3 strikes fills the bar. Each time a member fills their bar, the consequence changes:
This amounts to nine strikes before any member is banned permanently. If a forum member behaves in a way to warrant nine separate strikes, that demonstrates a very clear problem and they'll no longer be allowed on the forum. We want to be clear that these strikes are for minor to moderate issues. Larger problems will be dealt with more seriously, and the member will likely jump straight to one of the three types of bans. Moderators and admins will make these types of judgement calls together.
Because our policy is so lenient, members should not expect informal "warnings". We understand everyone can have a bad day, but you're going to get a strike when it's warranted. Period. One isn't a problem. Even two isn't a problem. Problems don't start to kick in until three. Three already shows a pattern of behavior, so at that point, you'll likely want to re-evaluate how you interact with the community.
---
One final thing we want to point out is this: nobody is entitled to be here. Using this forum -- and any online forum -- is a privilege. (U.S. folks, your constitutional right for free speech is protected against the government, not private individuals and industry). Please treat this community and those in it with respect. TL;DR -- If you want to be a dick, that's fine, but we don't have to let you be a dick, here.
ACCOUNTS
- Inactive accounts are not maintained. If you register and don't post within a year, you'll be purged from the forum.
- Multiple accounts are not allowed. If you run into a problem with your password, reset it. If you create multiple accounts prior to reading this post, let us know and we'll delete the one of your choice. Your posting history for the deleted account may or may not be salvageable. If we find out you have two accounts, we'll contact you to find out which you want removed. If you don't respond, we'll remove one at our discretion.
- Signatures and avatars are allowed, but please exercise good judgement. Obnoxious GIFs will be removed at our discretion.
POSTING
- Be patient when you request help. Nobody here is required to respond to your post.
- Post on the correct board (read the sticky post).
- Don't cross post.
- Don't spam boards with lots of short posts/threads in an attempt to get an answer.
- Posts must have content and not only a title. (Wtf.)
- Stay on topic.
MEMBER INTERACTIONS
- Please read our Contributor Code of Conduct on GitHub. The same rules apply to the forum.
- Repeated requests to forum staff to alter your group/forum access level will be considered harassment.
