ME3Explorer Wiki on Wikia

Why host on Wikia/Fandom?
There's not a lot of options available that are free, don't limit page views, use a decent platform, and have a respectable amount of storage. Wikia meets all these criteria and has updated its themes recently, so it's also relatively pleasant to look at. It's also a very popular platform, so longevity can be expected to a certain degree.
What are the goals for the ME3Explorer wiki on Wikia/Fandom?
As everyone knows, the old wiki was extremely outdated. So much so, that the information was no longer reliable and people basically forgot it was there. With WikiSpaces' movement from a free to payment-based model, it gave us the opportunity to move the wiki and start over. The new wiki has three goals.
The primary goal is to explain how to use the toolset. To synthesize information spread across forum posts into one cohesive and organized source. This should make using the toolset less intimidating, minimize confusion, and reduce time spent troubleshooting and searching the forums for answers. It should make things easier for mod users and creators, as well as toolset developers. The wiki is now the "authority" on tool use and will be kept updated as the toolset evolves.
The second and third goals are to manually transfer all relevant information from the old wiki, and to update and add to that knowledge base using information posted on these forums. This will be an ongoing, long-term project that can be contributed to by all modders in the community.
How is the wiki organized?
The wiki is organized to reflect the structure of the toolset. That means, as of the introduction of the new WPF GUI with v3.0, the wiki contains tool articles organized into the following sections: Create Mods, Utilities, and Install Mods. It also contains User and Developer Resource articles and tutorials. Every article is accessible from the TOC (table of contents) on the home page for easy navigation. Note that if you see a red link on the wiki, it means the article hasn't been created yet.
What help is needed?
As of writing this post on the new forum, here's the status of wiki development:
Create Mods and Utilities tool articles should not be created yet; these will be created once the tool is converted to WPF. It doesn't make sense to create the article now and then completely re-write it later. Time is valuable and shoul be spend elsewhere.
User Resource articles can be added as needed, but the most important ones are already present.
Tutorials can be added as needed, but should stay within the scope of the toolset.
Developer Resources articles are desperately needed. There is a huge amount of technical research and information on the old forum that needs to be verified as correct, completed, and moved to the wiki. We need the help of coders and advanced modders to do this. Users cannot do this.
To be clear, the new imperative is the migration of old forum content related to completed research, general information, and tutorials. We can prevent the old forum from being closed by posting intermittently, but one day it will be removed. All information not on the wiki will be lost when that happens. Please help us prevent that from happening.
Other than this, if Fog and I are looking for help with something specific, we'll pop up a thread. If you have an idea for an article, please feel free to post.
Who can edit the wiki?
Anyone. You don't even have to be logged in. Most pages are editable and anyone can add new pages.
it's important to familiarize yourself with the Wiki Editor's Guide. Doing so will minimize work for the admins, but expect Giftfish to always do a bit of clean up on your article. The better the language and the more closely the article adheres to the style guidelines, the less cleanup will be necessary.
What if I don't want to edit the wiki directly?
If you don't want to edit it directly, just drop your article in the forums here and someone will place it on the wiki for you. Note: Please don't post new research in the Wiki section. The wiki is only for content we are certain is correct.
What content is okay for the wiki (scope)?
As stated in the goals, the wiki has a very defined scope and much of it is already outlined on the homepage TOC. It's the "ME3Explorer Wiki", not the "ME3 Modding Wiki." Articles on the wiki should teach others how to use a specific ME3Exp tool, or provide information necessary to the use of those tools. Tutorials are also a good way to provide step-by-step examples on how to use the toolset to achieve a specific modding goal.
When will it be finished?
Timeline is completely dependent on how many people pitch in to help. If it's mostly Fog.Gene and I doing the work it will take years. (And indeed this has turned out to be the case, two years later). If folks post in the threads to share their knowledge, edit the wiki themselves, and help us dig through the forums to find all the important information, it will go much more quickly.
In short...help us help you
Why migrate from ME3Explorer Wiki on WikiSpaces"]WikiSpaces?
Primarily, due to changes in WikiSpaces policies. They recently transitioned to a payment model for all non-educational institutions. In September 2015, Deager graciously paid the amount ($50) to cover the cost for the next twelve months. However, this cost will be ongoing, so the easiest (and cheapest) option is to move the wiki.
The old wiki will permanently shut down on 23 October 2015. Much of the old content still needs to be relocated to the new wiki. There's still a lot of work to be done, so if you want to pitch in, please let us know!
Is the old wiki even worth moving? It was, er...pretty outdated.
Moving the wiki is "Phase 1," updating the wiki is "Phase 2."
